stuck in update configuration loop

My Dell xps is stuck on 3 of 3 update configuration. What do I do?

This happened to my Gateway Windows 8. What you have to do (according to the GAteway service tech), is wait. if it does not start, when the BIOS screen comes up, start pushing F8. Don't stop until it says something abot safe mode. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking" Then go in, and disable auto update.
