Hello- Here I am again with larger issues- Can't connect to Internet, using ethernet cable from computer to router,  I thought these system info reports might help.. i have downloaded drivers that were having issues and more cans of worms,, would not install-and things became more unstable..Just wondering if I should throw in the towel? Running, Windows Vista 64 - Hp Pavillion Thank you-

Hello,

Are you saying you cannot connect to the internet at all or only using Ethernet? What is the model number of the Pavilion?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager? If there are Right click the device and select Properties. Under the details tab select Hardware ID's in the dropdown box. Copy and Paste the first line for each device in your next post.

Sometimes it may be best to send the computer back to a factory state if the computer still has the recovery partition. The only drawback is that any data and programs installed will be gone. You will have to back up any important data including your browser bookmarks and email if you use an email client to an external or USB flash drive. Any programs you purchased and installed would need their serial keys. After factory reset you would also need to update Vista again through Windows Update. Is this something you would consider doing?

What is interesting is the HP driver site for your computer does not match what your Hardware ID states. According to the Hardware ID it's a Gemtek WUBR-177G. Was this computer upgraded to Vista from XP?

 

You can try this driver. This should get you wireless but we still need to do a few things before taking the computer back to a factory state.

 

Download Magical JellyBean Keyfinder and run it in an Admin account. This will generate any serial keys it finds for 300+ programs. Copy those to a text file and save it to a flash drive.

 

Download Advanced Token Manager and run in an Admin account. Save the backup to a flash drive. Also save the Office Activation if you have Office 2010 or later. It may not be need but can help if there is a problem with activation. This application requires .NET Framework 4 so it may not run for you.

 

If you would like me to look at your currently installed software list and see if there is anything better or a free equivalent do the following.

Type CMD in the Search Box and Right Click Run As Administrator. Type the following at the command prompt.

 

WMIC

 

At the WMIC prompt type the following. Wait for the command to finish. You will see the WMIC prompt when it's done

/output:C:\InstallList.txt product get name,version    < copy and paste 

You will have a text file called InstallList.txt in the root of C:\. Copy and paste the contents of the txt file in your next post.

Hi John- As far as I know, this was not upgraded, though I shall find out from roommate when I post results, The other thing I forgot to mention is the GEForce 8600 is corrupt,- says there is an error and must be closed, when I click on it- I will do all of these task's and repost later today-

Download this driver to a USB key then install it on the HP Pavilion.

 

I think you are using the Nvidia 8600GT according to the specs on the computer. But, the computer also has an intel integrated graphics chip. The back of the computer where you attach your Monitor Cable looks like this, correct?

Edit: You may have to install the above driver in Safe Mode.

Yes, you should be able to uninstall the graphics drive in Add/Remove Programs. Then install the driver I linked to.

Trying the CMD - I typed in,,WMIC, and pressed enter-

I got- wmic:root\cli>

then i typed in-/output:C:\InstallList.txt product get name,version   

waited several minutes- got nothing,,,tried 4 x - am i doing something wrong-?  UGH sorry

That's okay. Did you install the graphics driver? You can also download and run Minitoolbox to get the installed programs.

 

Check the following boxes and post the results.

 

Checkmark following boxes:

  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
