Before updating some out of date drivers, start time took approximately 54 seconds, now it takes almost 2 minutes to restart. Nothing is enabled in start up under "msconfig", or in service, except windows applications. Ran chkdsk, as well as system file check (sfc) all with out incidence. Retested same in safe start up, yielding same slow boot and nothing found.

Ran "Tweaking.one" program and did reboot, again almost 2 minute to restart time from screen shot of windows is starting to loaded desk top. Any one have any ideas as to how to speed up start up time, and or diagnose possible hang up at start. Thanks for assistance in advance.

What is the make and model of this computer.

What drivers did you update.

Where did you download the drivers.

Sorry, should have known better. Gateway DX4860, windows 7 OS.  Drivers found out of date. Drivers were updated direct from manufacturer. Some were for net adapters, Realtek PCIe. The list was a bit long. When I checked them against the system windows reported they were all functioning, but when I scanned for updates from vendors found several had updates from as long as 4 years ago. Unfortunately I tossed update list.

System operating fine, no problems other than extraordinarily long start up.

What I was looking for was if you used a program which scanned your operating system for drivers to update?

Sorry again. I have since uninstalled the program, but it was IObit  Driver Booster 2. Was not sure what the drivers were, so I printed list and one by one checked with OEM  to see what if any were available. IObit picked up 32 out of date, and out of those only 15 were valid and or applied.

Please run AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner and install it.

When AdwCleaner opens you will see an image like the one below.

adwcleaner11_zps48314883.png

Click on Scan to start the scan.

Once the search is complete a list of the pending items will be displayed.  If you see any which you do not want removed, remove the check mark next to it.

Click on Clean to remove the selected items.  If you have any questions about any items in the list please copy and paste the list in your topic so we can review it.

You will receive a message telling you that all programs will be closed so that the infections can be removed.  Click on OK.  The computer will be restarted to complete the cleaning process.

When the cleaning process is complete a log of what was removed will be presented.  Please copy and the paste this log in your topic.

I did as you requested. Scan came up blank results. I cleaned any way. On restart noticed two things never saw before: 1) message saying please wait while user profile is loading, 2) preparing desk top.

Dc3,

Could not determine what was causing delay in start up. Resorted to windows repair disc. Ran and rebooted. Now start up is less than 54 seconds, a speed I can live with. I tried to run the gateway recovery management program, but found the file was damaged or missing key components. Had to uninstall it. All seems to be up and running except for two glitches wish may be attributed to gateway missing file.

I get several messages during start up and shut down I never noticed before, there may be more but they're so fast can't get a good glimpse at them.

Start up: loading user profile, loading desk top

Shut down: shutting down services; windows profile, group policy, windows update, stopping services, shutting down

Trying to reinstall gateway program without reformatting, if possible.

Thanks for your help, again.

Johnny Dee

PS: completely understand about personal em, accept my apologies for the intrusion

DC3,

Thanks for advice. In my original post "tweaking.com" windows repair all in one is what I ran after first issue with driver update. To compound problems I tried using the gateway recovery program when all this started only to find that it had been corrupted, and or was missing integral parts to run the application. I uninstalled that program since all that was left of it was S/N and SNID information. I'll run windows repair all in one again and post findings. Thanks again!

Johnny Dee

PS:  understand reason regarding PM, mea culpa!

DC3,

Here is the log as you requested. I know my eyes aren't "technically"  as good as yours  but at a quick glance I do not see any abnormalities. As I said everything appears to be up and running fine except for those strange messages on start up and shut down. Thanks, Johnny Dee.
