My budget for the new computer is:
Trying to do < $500
What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)?
Light usage - browsing, email, basic programming (mostly editing)
What software do you intend on using on the computer?
Vim, Emacs, Chrome, Thunderbird, Eclipse, Java, GHC, node.js
Do you play games? If so, what type of games?
Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it?
Several programs, tend to close when not needed
Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer?
Will you be overclocking?
Location for online shopping/shipment/prices?
How many monitors are you planning to use?
Do you need peripherals? OS?
No. Linux.
Any particular reason why you are upgrading?
Have an old laptop, want something a bit newer, two monitor support (so I can hook the same monitors vs. 1 laptop screen + 1 monitor which is of a different size)
Other reqs / comments
I'd like an an Intel 4 generation CPU and SSD, with SSD not necessarily included in the price. I'm interested in low power consumption, so nothing too fancy, but still want some decent performance. GPU not an issue or I can add later as needed. At least 4 GB ram, preferably 8 GB. HDD not an issue, 60 GB would work. No need for DVD. Pre-built preferable, but not against custom building.
Any recommendations or pointers?
