OS: Windows 7 Pro machines that connect to a 2008 server

At a business we help, they gave us a call yesterday morning saying that only specific desktop icons had disappeared. Looking at their machines they were missing shortcuts to a program that runs from the server as well as short cuts to folders on the server. However, nothing in the server seemed to have changed, the folder is still there, the modification time was when they last used it the day before. They are in a domain if that would help. We were able to simply go and place the icons back on their desktops yesterday and said they haven't had any issues this morning.

Their shortcuts were not from a single folder on the server

So, the main question, what would cause only very specific desktop icons to disappear from their desktop?

Yep, that sound about right.... I just now remember hearing my manager talking to the employee that setup the server that he went in and changed the path for all the files, however, you'd think as soon as he'd change it, the short cut wouldn't work, but it did for weeks before this happened.

The easiest solution is to just recreate the shortcuts, then create a folder on the desktop and drag those into that folder. It only deletes broken shortcuts if there are 4 or more and they are directly on the desktop.
