Are Windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013 compatible – or not?  Everything I’ve tried to get connected in the past 2-3 weeks has failed.

My ISP is comcast.net and they suggested an online procedure called “Configure Outcast 2013 for Comcast Email.”  I tried this several times and the final “Test Account Settings” always failed for both incoming and outgoing mail.

Someone suggested it might be a password thing – or is it an Outlook 2013 or Windows 8.1 software bug?

Thanks,

shamrock838

If the email account is with outlook, manually configure the settings:

Incoming pop3.live.com

Security SSL/TLS

Port 995

Outgoing smtp.live.com

Security STARTTLS

Port 587

My ISP is with comcast.net.

Comcast walked me through "Configure Outlook 2013 for Comcast Email" (search Google) .

When asked to "test Account Settings" as the last step of this process - both "send" and "receive" failed - each time I tried it.  ???

Have you signed into the email account through your web browser?

It's not Outlook or the OS. They should work fine together, and in most cases I've seen they do. I suspect it's configuration issue. Doublecheck to make sure all your settings -- server, port number, security type, email address and password, are all correct.

You might also want to check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking the required email ports.
