I've been in the computing industry for 17 years and I thought I've seen it all.

Apparently not.

Yesterday I hit the power button on my PC to wake it up and it mysteriously switched from a local account to an online account. Odd, since I don't have a microsoft account.

Anyone here ever see, or heard of this?

The Microsoft account is actually your windows live or Hotmail account that is connected to your email. That is what you use to sign into your pc in windows 8.1. It is a new feature to help keep your PC more secure on login.
