Have Acer Aspire 7551 Laptop AMD Phenom II N970 4 GB RAM running Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit which runs very slow, web browsers will not reliably connect and often time out though connected to a viable network. Will not shut down or restart except by on/off button. All software up to date. Have clean Vipre Internet Security, Spy Bot S&D and Malware Bytes. Any ideas?

Which security product is running an active scanner?

Have you run any tests on your RAM or HDD?

Do you have a current backup?

Keep us posted

David,

Have you tried to run a startup repair wit the installation disk?

No backup is like jumping out of a plane with no parachute - the fall may not be too bad but the sudden stop at the bottom might be a killer.

Just as soon as you get back up and running make a back up and do that regularly hence forth and forevermore

Keep us posted

So long as only one of them is running an active scanner there shouldn't be any problems. I keep a couple of programs on my desktop to use 'on demand' when I feel the need.

Updates & Clarification

Have backed up.

Have run both system and memory test from system recovery disc, with no issues reported.

Vipre Internet Security is active full time. Spy Bot S&D and Malware Bytes are run as on demand scans from time to time.

Any further ideas?

Just the fact that infections are a 'when' not an 'if' these days so along with keeping your OS and AV current you must keep your chair / keyboard interface fully engaged at all times.

I run an on demand scanner weekly. If it finds anything I might run another one as insurance. We'll be here when you need us. Til then
