I have the win-eto virus and cannot seem to get rid of it. I have tried killbox, adaware, counterspy, spybot, security suite, cwsshedder, and hijackthis, and this things keeps coming back. One this is I cannot delete/find the winlogIN.exe file to also delete as suggested. Any ideas as to how to get rid of this thing completely?

Please respond to my email address dalebac@hotmail.com

Thanks for the help.

Click here to download HijackThis by Merijn Bellekom. Doubleclick the file, click Unzip and it will save the application to C:\HijackThis. Run it from there to scan your computer.

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All and post it here for examination. Don't fix anything yet as most of what it lists will be harmless.

Download the latest version of HijackThis (HJT), from here.

Put HijackThis in a Permanent folder:
Click My Computer / C: / File / New / Folder / name the folder; HijackThis
Put HijackThis.exe, in this folder.
This is a mandatory step, for the backup and restore functions, of HijackThis, to be able to work.

Read the pinned post in the HJT forum, here

Then, run a log, and post it in the HJT forum here. Do not, fix anything, yet.
A member, of the HJT Team, will help you out.
Please, be patient, these people are volunteers. They will help you out, as soon as possible.

If you are not using AdAware SE, click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here

Will have to use the old method on this. OK, we don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together. The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable Norton for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

C:\Windows\System32\o4ncywy8tkwjekll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

[/b]It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button again and repeat for the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\j9x3ggmdhbk3ethd.exe

and again for:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tibs3.exe

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the YES button.

Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=9
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=9

Reboot again and post a new log.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Looks OK.

If Norton is your preferred antivirus and you keep it up to date then uninstall AVG. Otherwise uninstall Norton. Antivirus programs that are not kept up to date are worthless and running two resident programs can cause conflicts.

How is it running now?

It seems to be running great.

I want to take this time to publically thank you for all your help with this problem. When I originally posted the message and posted in a couple of places, I was not familiar with how the board works, for this I apologize. You have been a great help to me in uninstalling this. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this as I have been out of town.

Thank you again.
