Greetings to all Bleeping Computer folks,

I have a question.

I currently run Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium on Windows 7 Ultimate. Sometimes (but not all the time) Malwarebytes would block an outbound originating from Kaspersky, and in turn Kaspersky's logs would state that its Self-Defense module blocked MBAM from doing anything to avp.exe.

It does not happen very frequently, but it makes me wonder why.

Thanks in advance.

In some instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product. Also see this Learning To Add Exclusions topic.

If your anti-virus is conflicting with or blocking Malwarebytes, you may need to ensure Malwarebytes Anti-Malware's files and folders are excluded from your Anti-virus AND your Firewall.

These are typically the files in various operating systems which can be added to your anti-virus exclusion list when experiencing issues using the Pro version of Malwarebytes.

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For Windows Vista or Windows 7/8:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64-bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7/8:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

You may need to check your anti-virus user manual for specific instructions on how to add files to the exclusion list if not familiar with adding files. Most anti-virus vendors post user manuals on their web site which can be downloaded and saved.

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you may need to exclude mbam.exe from it as well.

Sometimes MBAM just pop up saying "Malicious Website Blocked" (usually a .ru domain) and states that the source was Kaspersky.

Otherwise they do not interfere in each other's normal functions.

When I try to add Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10's main file (avp.exe) to Web Exclusion, MBAM states "For Malicious Website Protection to function the process avp.exe cannot be added to Web Exclusions".

I did not provide this link as you initially did not mention any issue with Malicious Website Blocking

* How to exclude IP addresses, Internet domains and processes from Website Protection

If the links I provided do not help to resolve your issues, the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware development team recommend you start a new topic in the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help Forum and report them there so they can investigate.

You can also contact the Malwarebytes Consumer Support Team (Submit a Ticket) for individual assistance.
