I hope I am posting this in the right section. I know I got the virus in my windows 7 laptop. I think I got it by clicked on a Java update.

I think I have removed the Cryptowall virus, but my files our still encrypted. I have found good info on the different types of crypto viruses at wintips.org.

I have no shawdow copys and nothing comes up with the ShadowExplorer program.

I am an idiot, I tried deleting the virus and all the files (before I really even knew fully what this virus was about), DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION.txt, DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION.html, and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION.url

I never even saw the website to pay these guys, Now I wish I could just try to pay them but don't have a personal web link to get to there website b/c I deleted the files.

I put all my encrypted documents on a external hard drive, hoping I can decrypt them in the future. Right now is there nothing I can do?  I don't know what Im going to do with out my files, this is devastating.

There is no know decryptor for Cryptowall yet, correct? how can I be notified when someone does come up with a decryptor?

thanks

Rock

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQ

Reading that Guide will help you understand what CryptoWall & CryptoWall 2.0 does and provide information for how to deal with it and possibly decrypt/recover your files. At this time there is no fix tool for CryptoWall.

CryptoWall 2.0 uses its own TOR gateways...see Updated CryptoWall 2.0 ransomware released that makes it harder to recover files.

There is also a lengthy ongoing discussion in this topic: CryptoWall - new variant of CryptoDefense.

Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that topic discussion.
