What games?  Are you talking Candy Crush or World of WarCraft for games?

Do you know how much you want to spend?

Smart phone....one I would choose and install Skype on it and the Notebook, too.

The real expense will be in buying internet and phone service.

Don't get a netbook, they are underpowered, and anyone who needs a netbook will be happier with an ultrabook. (I didn't think they were even making netbooks anymore?)

If you type a lot, get a laptop.

If you do nothing serious and mostly want a toy to use while sitting on the couch, get a tablet.

If you need something that can fit in your pocket, get a smart phone.

they make these special phones with extra large buttons and no confusing "features", mostly aimed at geriatric cell users who tend to be almost as confused as you seem to be.
