Hi,

Is it possible to have custom skins/themes for windows 8.1? (I'm getting bored with the dull theme of Windows 8.1. I want something more "detailled"/shinny like Windows XP/7)

If possible, where is the safest place to download it?

Theres always the simple, make it look like windows 7

www.classicshell.net - This program will bring back the start menu everyone is use to using

Windows 7 Icon Pack - This is a zip download of windows 7 button icons, just extract them to your pictures folder, then go to the classic shell properties and change the icon.

Looking around, windows 8 doesn't really have any colorful flashy themes like previous versions of windows offered. I did see this article, but it shows that you have to patch your system. I can only guarantee with classic shell, simple background changes, and theme colors.

When I had windows xp, I use to use WindowBlinds by Stardock . It does have a cost, but with support from the company if you're having issues.

I don't really have too much else to offer past that though.

But Classic shell will disable the windows 8.1 start screen isn't?

Classic shell has a little tic box in its settings "Skip Metro Screen" , you can uncheck this if you still like the tiles. However when on the desktop the only way to get back to the tile screen will be to open the charms menu from the upper right hand of the screen.

Is there any other alternative of classic shell for the window skin?

For the deviantart link, thank you lol. Now I'm not sure which to pick/install.

I came across this link: http://www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_uxtheme.php?lang=en

is it ok to install this instead of classic shell?

You can install that and forget all about classic shell if you want. Classic shell just helps to bring back  the start menu so many people still love to use. Its more or less a tool than a theme.
