I ran a squared and found 11 spyware virus/worms? marked as bad but don't know how to fix it Also, when I run clean disk the 'compress files' folder does not empty. I also receive numerous e-mails daily from fictitious e-mail names? Any help you could provide would be sincerely appreciated.

Hi jeffcornell and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

Please make sure Ewido is updated with the latest definitions.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
  • Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer,Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • Once the desktop loads-> Open HijackThis-> Click "Do a System Scan Only" and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{1276E4B7-58A9-4209-AAE9-459E7F8C83A8}: NameServer = 85.255.115.101,85.255.112.110

    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{BAD51DCA-306F-440C-8C61-787916885684}: NameServer = 85.255.115.101,85.255.112.110

    O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{1276E4B7-58A9-4209-AAE9-459E7F8C83A8}: NameServer = 85.255.115.101,85.255.112.110

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button
Once in safe mode Open Ewido Security Suite and do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Click Start, and then click Search.
Click All files and folders.
In the "All or part of the file name" box, type:

rasphone.pbk

Verify that "Look in" is set to "Local Hard Drives" or to (C:).
Click "More advanced options."
Check "Search system folders."
Check "Search subfolders."
Click Search.
Click Find Now or Search Now.

If you find rasphone.pbk file, right-click the file, and then click "Open With."
Deselect the "Always use this program to open this program" check box.
Scroll through the list of programs and double-click Notepad.
When the file opens, delete the entries below:

IpDnsAddress = 85.255.115.101
IpDns2Address = 85.255.112.110
IpNameAssign = 2

Restart the PC in Normal Mode.

Now open the Control Panel-> In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems.

Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work

Save the Report it generates

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from Ewido--> Panda and report.txt from Fix WareOut.

Please install, update and scan the entire system with one of the following free Antivirus Software Programs

AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic

AVG Free for Windows

BitDefender 8 Free Edition

avast! 4 Home Edition

You really should install one of these free firewalls as well since Microsofts Firewall leaves alot to be desired.

Hi, Thanks!

I did everything you listed but the rasphone.pbx file did not have anything in it. Also, there was no networking tab in network connections so I couldn't click on obtain DSN servers automatically. I did run fixwareout successfully, and ewidio. Attached are the reports. Apparently, I still have KillApp.B.

I really need you to follow my instructions for installing the Antivirus and Firewall Software.

Without them, reinfection is only a matter of time!

OK, thanks. I had zone alarm and avg free installed as directed but deleted them after I lost connectivity and e-mail because I wasn't sure what was going on. After rebooting regained connectivity and e-mail but did not reload these apps. I have reloaded ZONE ALARM and AVG free and run the avg scan, no viruses detected. Also, attached is a fresh hijack this log, please review and advise...

Allright, lets do a couple of more scans and see is anything is left.

Download WinPFind to your C Drive.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

Once you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
BitDefender Online Scanner

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work

Save the Report it generates

Post back with the reports from WinPFind and Panda

Great, OK, here's the WINPFind log and the BitDefender scan report. BitDefender did not find any infected files. However, Ewidio keeps finding (every time I run Ewidio even after Ewidio has removed it) an infected object as follows: C:\Docum.:\HP_Owner\Cookies\hp_owner@msnportal.112.2o7[1].txt. Please review and advise, thanks!

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Great! I've deleted the 2 files listed above and disabled the restore function. I didn't understand the WINHELP2002 HOSTS FILE so I could not install it. I've also run Registry Mechanic and it fixed the 652 problems it found. However, I have 6 files that continue to show up as problems in registry mechanic no matter what I do. It appears that the .chk and . tmp files will not go away. Even after they have been fixed by Registry Mechanic, they reappear no matter what. I've tried to go into safe mode and delete all ~.tmp & .chk files but even after I locate these files they will not give me access or the ability to delete them. The files are listed below, please review and advise, thanks.

CHK file - C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs\edb.chk
CHK file - C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot2\edb.chk
Temp file - C:\Windows\Temp\ZLT036e3.tmp
Temp file - C:\Windows\Temp\ZLT038d9.tmp
Temp file - C:\Windows\Temp\ZLT053e0.tmp
Temp file - C:\Windows\Temp\ZLT05b1c.tmp

Also, each time I run Ewidio and delete the following file, it reappears no matter what:

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Cookies\hp_owner@msnportal.112.2o7[1].txt

I've also reinstalled Norton Anti-virus and ran the updated file, no viruses were detected by Norton. In addition, I,ve run F-Secure Backlight Beta and nothing was detected. Also, silent runners and the silent runners log is posted below. I'm apparently just guessing at stuff, any help you could provide in ridding my system of these last few problems would be sincerely appreciated, thanks! I've posted a fresh hijackthis logfile at the end of this post.
