Hello, I recently updated my Windows from 8.0 to 8.1, computer has definitely ran slower since updates, PC shuts down by itself after 25-30 minutes of use.

Others updates (Java, Mozilla, etc) could have also played a roll at infecting my PC.

Tried running AVAST boot scan but my PC shut down after 4% scanning was done (around 25 minutes). This gives me very little chance to do anything sense most deep scanning will take more than 25 minutes.

I could not run DDS sense I have Windows 8.1 installed in my PC.

I tried reverting system from Windows 8.1 to 8.0 but it was a mess and later my PC at restart will ask which OS I wanted to use.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/555015 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

thank you Nasdaq, on my first try to use TFC my screen went completely black, ESC key would not work, WINDOW key would not work, after a few minutes (PC froze) I pressed CONTROL ALT DELETE keys and had to restart PC.
PC is taking a very long time loading and after 5 minutes wait I am not getting icons/applications on desktop screen.
I had to restart PC for a second time.
I can see 2 like shadows icons (they appear on a lighter color) on my desktop screen "desktop.ini" and "Thumbs.db". What are these?

On my second try I was able to run TFC, had to manually restart because I did not get reboot option.
PC is very slow and it is taking anywhere between 4-5 min to load Mozilla.

Farbar on first attempt said: Not responding.

Farbar second attempt:

Mozilla seems to be loading a bit faster but the main problem is not solved: PC shuts down by itself after 25 minutes.

Could be some hardware problem caused by heat.

Is the computer running hot?

Disconnect from the Internet, close all running windows and applications.
Do you still get a shut down.

Please download MiniToolBox to Desktop and run it.

Check mark the following boxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Winsock Entries
  • Click Go and copy/paste the log (Result.txt) into your next post.
  • Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Is the computer running hot? Not more than usual (I placed my hand under Notebook and there were no signs of overheating).

Disconnect from the Internet, close all running windows and applications.
Do you still get a shut down? Yes, after 25-28minutes PC shut down.

I have no ideas about the errors.
They are different on different dates.

Thank you for your help Nasdaq, I noticed that most errors are dated 11-17-14 and 11-15-14 (so there are not that many dates), the troubling issue for me is the amount of errors. The fact that you have no idea about the errors makes me worry even more (because you are a computer pro).

What this one means? Error: (11/17/2014 00:27:46 PM) (Source: Microsoft-Windows-WMI) (User: NT AUTHORITY)
Description: The Windows Management Instrumentation Service failed to load the repository files under the directory %windir%\system32\wbem\repository.  This can be caused by a corruption in the repository files, security settings on this directory, lack of disk space, or other system resource issues like lack of memory.  If this error happens every time the machine is rebooted then the administrator on this machine may need to stop WMI Service, review the security setting on this folder and files under this folder, and run WMIDiag to validate the health of Windows Management Instrumentation

Update: I restarted Windows 8.1 on Safe Mode and I am waiting to see if PC shuts down again. Is that what I am suppose to do? Just restart PC on Safe Mode?

Yes please. This will start only the drivers and services for the Operating system.
Let it run for 30 minutes and see the problem persists.

If all is well do some repairs.
