"I have tons of dllhost.exe *32 processes running, which makes everything very slow.  Then I will receive a "powershell failure" window.  And when trying to go to web sites {ex:cnn.com or run Skype} clicking does nothing, they do not work."

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/554813 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I run my explorer in admin mode and it gives a lot less dllhost.exe *32 and powershell failures.  When I run explorer as one normally would {not admin mode} it spawns tons of dllhost.exe *32 and powershell failures.  With Explorer in regular and admin mode Oracle Java does a constant updated needed, FLASH does not work {ex: normal use of Flash within CNN news reports} and constantly asks me to install it again.  If I click on the no smoking symbol on explorer bar and turn off Active X filtering some web sites load {all websites loaded previously and Active X was never an option or concern}.  SKYPE will not open - it says there is a problem with the program and the window closes before ever opening.  And some web sites simply do not load.

No, I do not have the original or any for that matter Windows CD's.

PROBLEMS:  All occurred simultaneously, prior to a nice working or running machine, about a week ago after watching some movies on a web site {www.putlocker}.  When I run explorer as one normally would {not admin mode} it spawns tons of dllhost.exe *32, powershell failures, and CPU sits at 100%.  So, I now run my IExplorer in admin mode and it gives a lot less dllhost.exe *32, powershell failures, and CPU usually acts correctly, usually that is.  With IExplorer in regular and admin mode Oracle Java does a new update every time.  FLASH does not work {ex: normal use of Flash within CNN news reports} and constantly asks me to install it again.  If I click on the no smoking symbol on IExplorer address bar and turn off Active X filtering some web sites load {all websites loaded previously and Active X was never an option or concern}, if not some web sites will not load.  SKYPE will not open - it says there is a problem with the program and the window closes before ever opening.  And some web sites simply do not load which ever mode I am in or if it involves Active X or not.

I checked the process for dllhost.exe *32 and there where none running.  I have not had a powershell failure.  I did have an Oracle update request occur when I rebooted.  Skype is not working "Skype has stopped working - windows is checking for solution", that occurs as Skype is starting up.  It never makes it up.  It still says that FLASH is not installed, subsequently some videos are not running {ex: CNN news report videos}.  So, dllhost.exe and powershell failure might be gone.  It is has only been five minutes.  It says FLASH is not installed.  Oracle still went right out and updated again.  Skype is not loading.  Here are the two logs that you requested..

Skype is not working "Skype has stopped working - windows is checking for solution", that occurs as Skype is starting up.

I would reinstall Spyke. It may be corrupted.

ADOBE ISSUE:  I went to Adobe's site and did a new or fresh install of READER and FLASH.  Both installed correctly.  I then clicked on a tutorial to show me how to turn off Active X Filtering.  I clicked on the tools button, within IE 11, and unclicked the menu item Turn On Active X Filtering.  I then went to www.cnn.com and opened the news and the videos played correctly.  I then went to my explorer and clicked on one of my PDF's and Reader 11.0.9 opened the file correctly.  I was checking that because I updated the reader while I was at Adobe site.  So, Adobe issues seem to be solved.

SKYPE ISSUE:  When I go to Skype.com it does an update to Skype.  Not a new install.  Midway through the update it launches Skype and gives the same error, "Skype has stopped working - windows is checking for solution".  I believe, if it is okay with you, that I can deinstalled Skype all together and reinstalled a new or fresh install.  In that process it is telling me that it will close all IE 11 windows.  I don't want to loose this thread information.  So, I am going to send it to you and then close all windows and do a deinstall and reinstall of SKYPE.  Thanks!

See the SecurityCheck results before and after I went to Adobe and updated READER and FLASH.

I WENT TO ADOBE.COM AND DID INSTALLS OF READER AND FLASH.  THEN I RAN THE SECURITYCHECK PROGRAM AGAIN.  THIS IS WHAT IS FOUND.

SKYPE:  Well, I uninstalled it, ran disk cleanup, and rebooted.  I went to SKYPE.COM and it showed "installing Skype", rather than, "updating Skype.  But it failed in the same exact way and or same exact place.

AS PER THE OTHER PROBLEMS/SOKUTIONS:  I checked adobe flash and reader again, they are working fine.  I checked the processes {dllhost.exe *32} and it is not appearing, so that is fine.  I have not had a powershell failure all morning.  So that is good.  The only issue that I have remaining is that SKYPE fails to run and now at this point do a new install.  I've used Skype for ten years talking and chatting with people through-out the globe, as it pertains, to my business.

Again, sorry about the multiple threads.  I did check and see that I have multiple {4,5,6,7,8 at a time - depending} iexplorer.exe *32 processes running.  If that means something to you.

Thanks!
