Hi everyone

Just wondering if there is a easy way to remove

"Ads by NewPlayer" popup from internet explorer?

Edit: Moved topic from Windows Vista to the more appropriate forum.~ Animal

Welcome to BC!

Check in your add/ remove program list for New Player and attempt uninstall. That will likely not remove the ads, though.

Do a thorough cleanup using the programs below.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars...especially Yahoo.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

  • Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • After reviewing the log, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

ESET SCAN

  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

There are 4 programs. Why aren't you posting the logs? Eset is very good at removing adware as well as malware

which some report NewPlayer installs.

EDIT: Once you have run a scan and cleaned the computer using CCleaner, open CCleaner and click on Tools.

Choose Startup then click on the Tasks button. Look for NewPlayer Update and any other NewPlayer task and remove by

clicking on to highlight and choosing to remove/ uninstall. You can check in the other buttons for browsers for NewPlayer, too.

NewPlayer may set up a proxy...its known to do that if it can.

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:

  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Restore Points

It would really really help if you would post the logs of the scans for AdwCleaner, Eset Online Scanner, Junkware Removal Tool

Please comment on what tasks if any you found and disabled/ uninstalled using CCleaner's Tool for Startups

Did you click on the IE button in Startup to see if any listing for NewPlayer or other undesireable add-on is listed there?

I notice that you have Malwarebytes Antimalware installed. Please open it, check for updates/ update it, and run a scan with it.

Check the settings and make sure PUPS and Rootkits are checked/ scanned for

Post the log if it finds anything. Tell me if you have a problem with that and if you ran the scan.

Uninstall these programs:

Snap.Do (HKLM\...\{8956ABAC-F1A3-4AED-9D71-10C9084C081D}) (Version: 11.122.1.20284 - ReSoft Ltd.)
Snap.Do Engine (HKCU\...\{e06f6ed5-a2a7-4a17-8cd6-ffcb3bd13cce}) (Version: 11.122.1.20284 - ReSoft Ltd.)

WeatherBug Gadget (Version: 1.0.0.6 - AWS Convergence Technologies) Hidden

I didn't ask you to post the startup items listed in CCleaner but since you did I suggest you go back there

and disable/ remove from startup these items:

Yes HKLM:Run SunJavaUpdateReg Sun Microsystems, Inc. All users "C:\Windows\system32\jureg.exe" -delete

Yes HKLM:Run QuickTime Task All users C:\WINDOWS\System32\qttask.exe

Yes HKLM:Run NvMediaCenter Microsoft Corporation All users RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit

Yes HKLM:Run Adobe Reader Speed Launcher Adobe Systems Incorporated All users "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

Yes HKCU:Run swg Google Inc. Craig "C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe"

Yes HKCU:Run CCleaner Monitoring Piriform Ltd Craig "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /MONITOR
