tried installing sp2 and vista is sending me in a boot loop HELP

turn on

goes to start logo page with boot menu / set up / diagnostic test

then goes to screen that says " windows failed to start. hardware or software change"  start normal or start up repair


either one takes me back to the same screen after going through the screens


and it says there are no recovery points.
