Windows 7 laptop. As the title says, and it revolves in an endless loop. At first I thought it to be a hardware problem with the monitor (as my laptop is rather old), but if that were the case, the Safe Mode and Splashtop would not work. So now, my assumption is that a programming file(s) may be corrupted. Avast and MalwareBytes were run in Safe Mode, but they apparantly found no problems. I do recall before this event, I let a "Check for file consistenty" command run on its own when it appeared before the desktop loaded one night. It is possible that the problem may have stemmed from there.

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

How have you been, Helpbot.

1) The computer is still in the same state as I have described. No changes. I have since shut it down, up until this point.

Ever since I let a "Check for disc/file consistency" command run on its own when it appeared as Windows 7 was starting up last week, It had stuck itself in this cycle of restarting back to the Splashtop at the moment when the desktop was supposed to show up. I have had a blue screen once, as well as the aforementioned command prompt reappear. So far, my assumption is that the problem came from the command prompt, because when I cancelled the disc check every time up until this event, everything loaded as normal.

2) I will create a new DDS log as soon as I can.

The computer seems to be okay, however I have not actually tried to let it load normally to the normal desktop, I still have it in Safe Mode. I will see how that goes later in the day.

Java version out of Date!

Look in your Add/Renove program list and let me know the version number of your Java installation.

Get the latest version of the Adobe Reader.
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Before your download I suggest you unckeck the box on the top right "Yes, install McAfee Security Scan Plus - optional" this is not required if you are not a McAfee subscriber. While the installation is in progress you can also deny the installation of any other programs that may be suggested.

When installed remove your old version of the Reader using the Add/Remove Programs applet if present.

Restart the computer when done.

The computer managed to load the desktop normally this time. Thank you very much for your help.

Java version is 7.0.250

I cannot use Windows Update to install the SP1 pack because ironically, I require several updates and fixes for Windows Update itself before I can do anything with it; it is quite outdated (Last check was from 21/03/2012). I'm going to install those updates manually before moving onto SP1 which I also plan to install manually when the free time comes.
