groovicus referred me here. I hope you'll be able to help.

I posted on security-forums because my computer was badly infested with all sorts of spy, ad and malware. Most of it has been cleared up but some things remain.

First of all, what I believe, after googlinh for a while, Lamedon-A. C:\windows\dl.html is opened by something and opens a remote page.

Then I think I might have a CWS infection. I had one, ran CWShredder which got rid of something, but it wasn't quite gone after that. Since then, I've seen my start page, etc. changed several times.

I've run SpySweeper, Ad-Aware and Panda Titanium AntiVirus, all fully updated.

I'm not sure the problem with dl.html still exists, I've just run Panda and it hasn't popped up yet. Also, there are no more traces of CWS, but start page changes and such have appeared out of the blue before.

My HJT log:

Ok the log looks fine. I am going to read up on what Groovicus and friends did over at Security-Forums.

Below is one that I would like you to fix. It may beharmless but I would like you to remove it anyways. If you are ever in the situation that you need it again, it will download automatically.

Fix this in hijackthis:

Also have you disabled and enabled system restore?

Alright, I fixed that entry.

The dl.html popped up once after the Panda scan, while it should have appeared more often. The entry that used to be in HTJ is gone. C:\windows\dl.html is still there. I don't know whether whatever calls dl.html is gone or not.

I've disabled and enable system restore several times, after reading online that I might have to to remove certain things.

Do me a favor and follow these steps:

Step 1. Download DLLFix from one of the following links. Save it to a folder on your root drive, which is C:\ for most people:

http://downloads.subratam.org/dllfix.exe

or

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe

Step 2. After it has completed downloading, navigate to the folder you saved it in and double-click on dllfix.exe.

Step 3. It will prompt you to extract the files somewhere. Type in c:\dllfix and press install.

Step 4. Navigate to c:\dllfix, open the folder and double-click on start.bat

Step 5. Run Option 1 by pressing 1on the keyboard then enter. The program will now start searching.

Step 6. Once the search is complete a text file should open with the name Output.txt. Copy and Paste the contents of this text file to your next reply to this post. And a new HijackThis log.

Follow these steps:

Run start.bat again but this time choose option 2.
Then choose option 1.

When it asks for the filename enter: C:\WINDOWS\System32\COMKHPI.DLL
and press return.

Let it do its thing. WHen it asks to reboot do so.

Then post a new Output.txt (do option 1 in start.bat again ), the logs.txt the fix generated (you will find it automatically being made and found in the dllfix folder) and a fresh HijackThis Log.

This looks good. Are you still having problems?

Not really. dl.html hasn't appeared today nor has my start page changed. I've been having SpySweeper and Panda AntiVirus running in the background constantly so that might have helped.

But as far as I can tell, everything is gone, so thank you for your help. Even though I don't have a clue what you had me do.

Heheh  It was the part where i had you run dllfix with this filename: C:\WINDOWS\System32\COMKHPI.DLL.

Forgot to tell you, please see if you can delete that file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\COMKHPI.DLL
