My computer is running slow, and task manager shows multiple copies of a file called Ikygeuo.exe running. That file is physically located in c:\users\username\appdata\locallow\microsoft\ersxwnf\ilpkhtxodxy\ and was created 7 days ago. I strongly suspect this is a virus, but cannot find reference to this filename on a quick google search.

Rather than make things worse by amateurishly trying to hack this myself, I turn back to you bleepingcomputer, in hopes of expert help. (I have posted before, alas, on a previous incarnation of this PC when it was running XP).

I am attaching screenshots of my taskmanager and the windows explorer folder showing the suspicious file/process in a reply to this post (I don't see how to add attachments to the initial post).

My OS is Windows 7 SP1 x64.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

UPDATE:

  • I made a .zip copy of c:\users\username\appdata\locallow\microsoft\ersxwnf\ then ran "taskkill /F /IM Ikygeuo.exe /T" several times until no copies were listed in taskmanager, and then deleted the folder and its contents
    • After this the Ikygeuo.exe process no longer appeared in taskmanager
  • Today I launched IE and the Ikygeuo.exe process came back and the c:\users\username\appdata\locallow\microsoft\ersxwnf\ folder existed again
  • I again perfomed the taskkill and then deleted all subfolders under c:\users\username\appdata\locallow\microsoft\
  • I just installed AVG Antivirus (free) and updated it and am now performing a full system scan. I plan to act on its recommendations upon completion of the scan
    • (My wife is pressuring me to make the computer usable ASAP)
  • My next step once AVG is complete is to install MBAM and run that, following its suggestions
  • I will not play with any additional scanning or cleaning tools (combofix, etc)
  • I will gladly stop now if someone posts and tells me to (meaning cancel the AVG scan and/or not install or use MBAM)

Thanks again!

Christian
