hello guys and gals, i could really apreciate some tips here as im completly lost. ill try to be as descriptive as possible
i have been running yosemite for 2/3 days on a mid 2012 imac.
everything was working ok since the upgrade, but recently i had to do a 'hardcore shutdown' by keeping the power button pressed because i couldnt close vlc player. the next time i turned on my computer it took for ever to boot and after entering the password it takes forever to show the main top bar, the icons on the desktop dont show up at all, i cant open finder or any other folders, when i hover my mouse anywhere over the desktop it just shows me the beachball and when i try to properly shut it down i also get just the beachball and nothing happens.

after searching on this, here is what i did so far: one person suggested to press cmd+option+esc to relaunch finder (wich does say 'not responding') but that didnt help at all. i already tried to use disk utility to see if anything was wrong with the HD and couldnt find anything. when i enter in safe mode, the same thing happens. i removed all apps from the list of apps that start when the computer starts also with no luck. and lastly i made another admin account and to my suprise over there everything is ok. i can open finder and other folders and i can shut the computer down properly. wich i guess tells me that its not a hardware problem, so what could be bugging out my main account? what could i do?

hopefully somebody has any tips:)

Try trashing the Finder plist file in the Library of your main account.

This page will basically tell you what you need to do:

I will note that with newer versions of the Mac OS make the Library folder harder to get to, so you may need to look at this article:
