Do you want to use the proxy server, or do you want to use DHCP?

The "proxy" message usually refers to you not having a internet connection.  Microsoft does the 'grab bag' approach to error messages.  Could be couldn't contract proxy server or couldn't contact dns server.  Both mean the same thing; no internet.

How are you connecting?  Wired or wirelessly?

What are you connecting to?  Your own router?

Others using this router just fine?

Post the results of a ipconfig /all for review.
