HELP! My IT Department is saying that the only cure is to format my hard drive and start again

Problem: Spyware and/or Viruses I think

Symptoms: It takes 3-5 minutes to load Internet Explorer and the same for Windows Explorer. Even when loaded, Internet Explorer freezes regularly. Windows explorer works okay once it loads. In safe mode, both work without hesitation. Windows Control Panel alos takes a very long time to load. All other programs (General ledger, Crystal reporting, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Sequel. Acrobat, etc) seem to work just fine.
I upgraded to d-Aware SE and ran and cleaned, then rebooted

Question: Can it be fixed without formatting my hard drive? Here is a logfile of Hijack this:

Download: Clear the Cache from here

Once installed, run CCleaner then tick the following:
Posted Image
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.

Restart HijackThis and put checks next to the following, close all browser windows (including this one) then click on 'Fix Checked':

 almost there!!!

My Windows explorer and internet explorer are coming up immediatly. WOW!! THANKS!!
Now, my last problem is that my internet explorer is missing all of the toolbars, address bar, and google toolbar up top, so navigation is no fun.

1) I ran Ccleaner, from the site you said. I could not find the option “old Prefetch data” but I checked all of the other ones and ran it.
2) I ran hijack this and fixed all of the things that you listed
3) I rebooted, and here is the new log:

Click on 'View' at the top then select your toolbars from there, does that work?

I have no option to click on view at the top. See attached screenprint of explorer.

I did find a tool called ToolbarRepair (Kelly's Toolbar repair Utility) Company name=Kellys Corner that has options to repair Internet explorer toolbar or windows explorer toolbar. I can't remember where I got it from. I am afraid to run it without advice, since I am not sure that might not cause problem. Are you familiar with it?

I've heard of it but never used it. Is it compatible to 2000? If so give it a whirl.

You're welcome  Tell the I.T. people they can relax :flowers:

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

More info and download is available at:
SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at:

Click here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows. Click here to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. It's very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks.
