I am not sure if you will be able to help me...I just use my computer for crafts and e-mails and some chat...I am a user of KathrynScraps.com and there is a chat room that when she is on doing some crafty thing we can all chat, that is members of her site...About 3-4 weeks ago the chat just stopped working and still does not work. I can sign on to the show
but no chat...The owner of the site worked with me last night trying to
see if we could get it to work and no we did not....You have to have Java
and Flash on the computer for her site to work, I have both...
I sure would like to know what I could do to correct the problem....We
did figure out it is not on her side, as all the others can and still get
the chat....
I thought maybe I could restore my computer back that far as I don't
have anything to worry about getting lost. The computer restore will
not go back that far..
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

There was a Java update about ten days ago. Go to this link to update. It will want you to download the Ask.com toolbar. Be sure to uncheck that.

G'day crafter, and Welcome to BC.!

Something has obviously changed....but only for you, not the rest of the chatters....

So, we will start by Uninstalling both Flash and Java, and then reinstalling fresh iterations of both.

Java

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it.

Run JavaRa.exe (Vista and 7 users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
    Accept any prompts.
There is NO NEED to post the Log from JavaRa

Flash

Please read the content on THIS page

To search for the items in steps 4 and 5, just click on the start button, and then type or copy and paste the item name (C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash) etc  into the 'Search programs and Files"  box . you will need to do this for each individual item. If any of the items are found, right click on the item and select Delete.

JAVA   <<<< download

Flash  <<<< download....be SURE to Untick the 'Optional Offer'  !!

Any dramas, just talk to me....we will sort it out somehow

Hello,

I did what you requested and uninstalled Java and Flash and reinstalled both of them, the same problem...

I just have no idea what is going on...We pay so much a month/year to be able to watch this program and

be able to chat with others...I can get into the classroom but the chat will not open for some reason....

When she helped me on Friday night the last thing was said it could be my server, what ever that means

I have rebooted my system so many times and uninstalled and installed programs...I am so frustrated

and confuse...

If you have any other ideas pleas let me know...I will have to discontinue my payment for the program if

I cannot get it to work....

Thank You

Well, that certainly is a conundrum !

However...logically it can only be blocked in certain ways....your antivirus or firewall being two of the more likely contenders.

Run this for me...it simply gathers information about your systems security programs..

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

crafter693,

Did you make changes to your anti-virus software about 3-4 weeks ago?  (Just before your chat quit working?)

The reason I'm asking is because your "Security Check by Screen317" report is showing that you appear to have two anti-virus programs installed right now: both Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG Internet Security 2011.  Whenever you have more than one anti-virus program running at the same time, they usually interfere with each other, and this can often cause weird system problems.

Therefore, you should pick one or the other of your anti-virus programs to use (and uninstall the other), plus then run a system scan with it just to be safe. (If you decide to remove the AVG program, please go to the following website and download/run the 64-bit AVG remover tool.)   http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

I uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials as I had not ever downloaded that virus program.

Now I cannot get onto my program at all...Is it possible when I signed up for the program

they had Microsoft Security Essentials on the software so it automatically downloaded on

my computer??? Please help don't know what to do now...Should I re install the Microsoft

and uninstall the AVG????

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is available as a free download from Microsoft, so you can easily download and install that later, if you decide to.

Now that MSE has been uninstalled, have you updated and run your AVG anti-virus software program?

Also, what is meant by your comment "Now I cannot get onto my program at all..."?

AVG contains a firewall.

The Microsoft firewall is enabled.

If AVG firewall is also enabled there could be a conflict between the two.

DISABLE AVG firewall. Unfortunately I cannot tell you HOW to disabled it as I don't use AVG.

See if you can connect to the chat.

Report back here with the results.

First of all I don't know how to disable AVG firewall. The reason I said, now I cannot

get into my program at all, since I deleted the Microsoft Security Essentials, was

the program that started this whole mess was a crafting program that I am signed

up to and pay for to watch each week crafting ideas. I was able to get into the

classroom and chat with others. Then all of a sudden a few weeks back I could

still get into the classroom and watch the show but my chat would not work or open..

The owner of the site, software tried to help me see if it was just a little adjustment

with my computer. No matter what we did it did not help. Then she said it could be

my server will not work. Well with the knowledge I have with computers none of

this makes sense. I just want to be able to watch my show as I said, I am paying for

it...Could I reinstall MSE and uninstall AVG and that would help??? I know now I

cannot do anything...

Would really appreciate any help I could get...If I need to do that with AVG that is

fine as long as someone tells me what to do, but I uninstalled the MSE so there

should be no conflict....

I see things have moved along since my last visit ...!!

To disable the AVG firewall, follow these instructions...

  1. Open the AVG program
  2. Click the Firewall icon
  3. Select Firewall disabled
  4. Save the changes

Since you uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials there is no conflict between ANTIVIRUS.

MSE is strictly antivirus. It does not contain a firewall.

However, you still have two FIREWALLS enabled-Windows firewall and AVG firewall. Having more than one FIREWALL enabled at the same time will also cause conflicts.

I am so sorry but I am so confused right not..Firewall don't even know what that is..

I tried opening AVG but cannot find where the firewalls are. All that the AVG says

is that I am protected...Don't really know if I am or not....I was able to watch my

program before and did not change anything. The only thing I know that happened

was Windows updated some files, which ones I do not know and don't know if

that has anything to do with it...The program I watch is like YouTube but she

has her own web site...It use to be on Ustream but she was having to many

problems....So we all paid to be able to watch her program and not have any

issues....Well go figure I would be the one to have a problem.....
