I forgot to mention that this computer is new to me, given to me by somebody else after my other one crashed.

If the computer has all the junk installed by a previous owner/user...you really ought to just do a clean install, IMO.

IMO, running any system with 1GB of RAM and Win 7...is just asking for problems that don't need to be created.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Thanks :).

Re Embedded Controller Errors

Of the list in your initial post, I would delete/uninstall the following:

"McAfee Security Scan Plus.lnk" "McAfee Security Scanner Scheduler" "McAfee, Inc." "c:\program files\mcafee security scan\3.0.285\ssscheduler.exe" "9/5/2012 10:54 AM

"McComponentHostService" "McAfee Security Scan Component Host Service" "McAfee, Inc." "c:\program files\mcafee security scan\3.0.285\mcchsvc.exe" "9/5/2012 10:53 AM"

+ "hcw85cir" "Hauppauge WinTV 885 Consumer IR Driver for eHome" "Hauppauge Computer Works, Inc." "c:\windows\system32\drivers\hcw85cir.sys" "5/11/2009 2:22 AM"

+ "hitmanpro37" "HitmanPro 3.7 Support Driver" "" "c:\windows\system32\drivers\hitmanpro37.sys" "8/19/2013 3:06 PM"

McAfee Security Scan not reflected as installed.

Hauppauge WinTV not installed, no TV-capture device installed.

Hitman Pro not installed.

All other items (mostly drivers) should be left alone.
