Posted 12 June 2006 - 07:00 PM

I am trying to fix my mother's computer. I had done a few norton scans a threat named Adware.Lop kept popping up and Norton was unable to delete it. I tried to delete the files myself (EggsDent.exe and comp mess.exe) but wasn't able to. Basically I am getting an insane amount of pop up windows when I try to open explorer. All kinds of links show up in the favorites and I have some weird search bar that pops up at the bottom. Also the homepage keeps changing to search2000.com or something like that. There are icons on my desktop such as cell phone ringtones, party poker and watch this live. Here is the hijackthis log below. Hope you can help.

Please Download NoLop!.exe to your desktop from one of the following mirrors.
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop!.exe to run it
  • Once open, click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<Your computer will now be scanned for Infected Files>>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • After the Reboot, A Message should popup from NoLop! if not, double click the program again and it will finish
Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop!.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

Download Findlop by Metallica. Unzip it to your desktop.
Double click findlop.bat. It will open a notepad file.
Copy the content of that file and paste it here in your reply.

nooo prob

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Notes
Lets see if this works better for you :D

Boot Into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

View Hidden Files and Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Start HijackThis Fix
Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.iviiksfeqlpwoinpaaetlvy.net/SLu...Ks768ftys9.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {965A592F-8EFA-4250-8630-7960230792F1} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [burnsect] C:\DOCUME~1\DEBRAD~1\APPLIC~1\ChicBore\comp mess.exe

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

File/Folder Deletions
Delete the following Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

C:\DOCUME~1\DEBRAD~1\APPLIC~1\ChicBore\
Probably located within this folder, C:\documents and settings\{your username}\application data\

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Further Scanning
Please run a Scan at the Following site
Panda ActiveScan

Make sure that you choose the "fix" or "clean" option when available
at the end of this scan you will be given then option to VIEW and then SAVE a log from the scan -SAVE THAT LOG- and post it here

Please post a fresh HijackThis log & the Log from Panda so that we can check if your system is clean.

Terribly sorry about the wait

Download the Istbar Removal tool. Run the Symantec Istbar Removal Tool and follow the prompts for removal.

Download and install CleanUp! .

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.
Click OK

DO NOT REBOOT/LOGOFF WHEN PROMPTED

Download Killbox
Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Select each of the following files below with your mouse, then right click and select copy, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Now in Killbox go to, File then select, Paste from clipboard! Now hit the X button - choose YES when it asks if you want to reboot) Click Yes at the 'Pending Operations prompt'. if you see it:

c:\windows\system32\INNERADINSTALL.LOG
c:\windows\system32\lmd.bin
c:\windows\system\UpdInstall.exe
c:\windows\bundles\bs5-vmk1.exe
c:\windows\system32\FLEOK
c:\windows\bundles

Please reboot Now, and post a fresh hijackThis log :flowers:
