Why a HDMI cable screwed up my power options? Before putting in my video drivers it would take 5 or 6 seconds to turn the monitor back on and after any video drivers it would not work period.
I change to DVI cable and the power options worked and it took about 1 second to turn the monitor back on. All this was many hours for my time so I wonder why?

It could be that the monitor was not getting signal from the HDMI.  There could be something wrong with the monitor, the video card, or the cable.  Monitors go to sleep/turn off if they are not getting signal.

Are you sure you downloaded and installed the correct drivers for your configuration?
