Cryptowall links deleted and ignored

 (I'VE REPOSTED THIS IN THE CORRECT FORUM)

We're without IT support for another week, so  one of the owners has been filling in and doing a good job at it... until now.  We haven't been able to resolve an issue we're having of not being able to print to our three network printers. The print server can see the Belkin Hub software, but the individual users can't connect to the Hub. When the individual user trys to look at their USB hub connection the get the message "The Network USB Control Center is in use." Then a few days ago the three Cryptowall "Decrypt" links appeared on our shared network drive. Instead of taking immediate action to see if we were in fact infected, the links were just deleted and ignored, and the quest to figure out why we can't print has continued.  I've been assured that this is a hardware issue, not something that could be casued by a virus, etc. And that may very well be accurate.  But I'm not a believer yet, and I need to ask questions of people that are knowledgeable about these things. If we are infected, I need to be able to prove it.

 

Questions: 

-Is it possible that Cryptowall is involved in our printer issue.

-How can I be 100% certain whether or not  we are infected?

-If we are infected does Cryptowall continue to encrypt files until it's stopped one way or the other, or is the damage already  done

 

We're using Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition and with that, about 8 thin clients and two individual desktops. All managers have remote desktop access, and use it on a regular basis. We also have two laptops here that have no protection at all. One is used for remote access, and the other one uses only our wireless internet connection, but doesn;t access the network.

I have already responded in your other topic here. Please do not start new threads or duplicate topics as this causes confusion and makes it more difficult to get the help you need to resolve your issues when asking for and receiving assistance elsewhere. Further, it necessitates staff spending time with housecleaning to remove or close those duplicate postings...time which could have been provided to others needing assistance.
