First of all, thanks for this forum!!

I started having a weird problem yesterday where my computer will open a web page by itself every couple minutes and go to Microsoft.com  (exact page it goes to is http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx)  It will go to this page, and only this page.  I have run malwarebytes, spybot, kasperskytdsskiller, Adwcleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, CCleaner, Microsoft's Anti Virus and Malware Cleaners, superantispyware, and AVG all to no avail.  They say nothing is wrong.  But I still have my computer opening a webpage every couple minutes to Microsoft.com

Any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks!!

A couple of questions: are you very sure that is a Microsoft.com site? If so, is it more like: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=76277 or a variation (1st run), fix is a registry edit: http://www.geoffchappell.com/notes/windows/ie/firstrun.htm. Hope this might help.

The site it takes me to is http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

which is Microsoft's home page.  It does this by itself, not when I'm attempting to open the internet myself.

I guess I can close this topic.  It appears my issue is resolved.  I'd run a program called process monitor.  It helped me determine that a possible culprit was an executable file called xstij.exe.  I decided to back all my stuff up on a separate hard drive(in case something went wrong) and then remove this program.   But before I could do that my anti-virus finally found and removed it for me.  It's funny that I had already run my anti-virus (AVG), as well as malwarebytes, spybot, kasperskytdsskiller, Adwcleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, CCleaner, Microsoft's Anti Virus and Malware Cleaners, and superantispyware and none of them had found this.  But I'm grateful that AVG finally took care of it before I had to go through all the file moves.

So if anyone has a similar issue, use CCleaner to find xstij.exe in your startup, and to locate where in the users/appdata folder it is located.  Then you can delete it if your anti-virus and anti-malware programs can't locate it.
