Browser hijack ? Reduxmediia virus?

Hi.

I seem to have managed to install a browser high jacker.

reduxmediia  (with a double I ) and h t t p://t.cttrsv.c o m (spaced out so it wont link) seem to be the redirecting pages

As near as I can tell I Picked up the initial problem down loading picsa and even when declining all toolbars and add ons  I still managed to install the problem.

I have tried to rid my self of it but it is a persistant blighter and keeps returning.

I have used malawarebytes  antimalware tool ,malwarebytes antiexploit, cc cleaner malawarebytes anti rootkit adw cleaner and rkill to try and remove it.

rkill alerted me that some of my hosts were incorrect and I removed them  via a fix on the Microsoft site.

Edit for additional information

found out my son has been receiving  redirects on his lap top also. so I did a factory reset of my modem, It didn't seem to make any difference.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/552596 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I did do a fix on the host file using MicrosoftFixit50267 as it had been changed, this slowed the popups down but didnt stop them I have uninstalled java 7 and installed java 8 uninstalled MSE and installed avast anti virus. Desk top is flashing at times and PC labouring. . Curently running java script blocker and Add block pro in Fire fox. IE has pop ups blocked and now specifically blocking sites im being redirected to by adding them to blocking filters. Blocking this site hxxp://t.cttsrv.com seems to help. Have noticed its seems to be the source of most of the redirections for popups I have run ccleaner today and came across some enteries that disable registery tools and task manager i quarantined them.

RE Windows I have a Win7 dvd but my DVD player seems to be out of action.

As an Aside issue that is very likely related My Sons lap top is also infected and seems to be the same infection with the same site instigating the popups (t.cttsrv).

Hi Nasdaq

Thanks for your assistance. Computer seemed to be running better when i finished up before bed.

Previously I had power cycled the Modem off to disconect from the internet ,but as others were on the network i disabled the ethernet adapter using control panel. then re enabled it after i had completed the dds scans. I didnt see the dreaded link to cttsrv last night after that I thought i had beaten it once before only to find out i hadnt after a few hours.

I will have to change a setting in avast so i can down load Farbar but here is the adw cleaner scan

Looking good.

You have the latest Java version. The tool must be updated.

As for you son's computer start a new topic and run the tools I suggested here on post No. 5.

When done paste in this topic the URL and I will expedite the matter.

I reset the modem/router and all browsers

I have checked a few sites on the net and so far no element when hovered over has shown the dreaded  cttsrv.com link.

Computer is a little slow at times maybe due to extra anti malware and anti virus processes running than in the past.

I also uninstalled addblock pro tools as java was showing as out of date again in my security check.

subsequent recheck still indicated java is out of date by what i can understand.

I will let the Lad know you replied to his thread also.

Thanks

Dave.
