I just did a fresh install of Win 7 Pro x64 on a Gateway GT5644E.  Everything went fine until I got to the above mentioned updates.  They are the only 4 that come up when running "Windows Update" and they all fail with error code 800B0100.

I have tried to install one at a time and I ran "Fix It" from MS.  When I tried to install directly from MS website, a message appeared stating that "this update in not for this system" or something like that.  If these are not pertinent to this system, why are they showing as needed?

Not sure what to do.  Please help.

Hello,

This is a very common error when it comes to Windows Update, luckily it is pretty straight forward to repair.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

I did not follow your directions to the letter.....I am so sorry.  I followed steps 1. through 7.  Then, I restarted the machine, which showed "install updates and shut down".  When the machine started back up, I tried to run an update again (did I say I was sorry for not following directions?). When the update failed, I decided to run SUR again to get a log to post here.  This is what the CheckSUR.log looks like after the 2nd run (but the update still failed):

The files are now repaired which is a good start. Are you still getting the error 800B0100? or is it another one.

If it is 800B0100, please do the following.

Software Distribution rename
  • Click Start -> Type in CMD in the search -> Right click on cmd.exe and choose Run as Administrator
  • Entre in the following commands:
    net stop wuauserv
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download DL.bak
    ren %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore DS.bak
    net start wuauserv
Once completed please try and run windows update again.

Again, thank you for  your help!  We are making progress, as I only have one update that is failing.

I was still getting the 800B0100 error, so I followed your instructions.  I ran Windows update, it found KB3000988, failed to install with error 8024200D this time.  I shut the computer down.  When I restarted, and checked Windows update, it showed no updates available.  So I ran the "Check for Updates".  Lo and behold, it came up with the KB3000988 again.  Tried to install and got the same error as noted above.

I will wait for your reply.

That’s strange, it is normal after fixing a corrupt file for 800B0100 or 8024200D to show but never normally both. Any way 8024200D is also a nice easy fix, it is just a case of manually downloading and installing the update.

Thanks’ for providing the update number it made this easier to find, please go to the following link and manually download and run the update.
