Hello, I'm not sure if these two problems are related but I'm not sure what to think.
I have run scans with AVG Free (nothing found), Ad-AwareSE (found tracking cookie, data miner and removed), and Spybot S&D (found nothing).
Problem is, from time to time the Icons on my desktop for shortcuts change by themselves. For example, today my Icon for my internet connection shortcut looked like the Icon for Ad-AwareSE. How does that happen? In order to fix it I deleted the shortcut and created a new one. This is not the first time that this has happened. But it is not always the same shortcut that changes, it varies and happens about once every 7-14 days. Can anyone explain this problem and how to fix it?

Also I'm enclosing my HJT Log because I've never done it before and would like someone to look at it and let me know if they see anything that needs attention. Thanks in advance!

Hello again,

Nice to meet you too.

Unless you made this log in safe mode, or have some things disabled from starting up with msconfig, or some similar program, your log looks clean. Are you still having problems?

Hi teacup61,
Not sure if it is a serious problem or not, I continue to pick up "Tracking Cookies". I have read topics related to "Cookies" here at Bleeping and I have and already had my "Internet Settings" set to not allow "ANY" Cookies. I'm not even sure where I pick up the ones I mentioned. I don't surf the net hardly at all and am not even online for very long at any given time. I have a hotmail email address that I use to email friends and family and I found out about Bleeping from a friend and have been doing some reading here but that's about all I do online so I'm really unsure how I manage to pick up the "tracking Cookies". I am very new to all of this so it is possible that I have overlooked something or am just unaware of what is happening. My desktop shortcut icons have not done any changes on their own since I made this topic and am still unsure what causes that to happen. I did not make the HJT Logs in "Safe Mode" and have not "Disabled" any Startups. Anyway, your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello,

No problem, but sometimes folks don't even realize they've disabled some things at startup, so we have to ask to make sure.

You're going to have cookies any time you're on the internet. Say you go to your Hotmail page, which I use also. In order for you to use it, it sets a cookie....on that same page are lots of advertisements ( :flowers: ) some of which also set cookies. Some sites, even secure ones, will not open unless you allow a cookie to be set. Every time I log on, my ISP sets a cookie.

I'm glad the icon problem has stopped. No, I can't say right off what caused it. Just not enough information to go on.

I hope this has helped.

Take care!
tea
