Hello people, I have accidently downloaded a program called "YTDownloader" I found out that it was slowing down my computer. Next, I tried to uninstall it through the Control Panel, the result was that a virus was found during the process, thanks to Avast! Anti-Virus. Finally, I tried CCleaner, it came up with the same thing that the Control Panel did. I found out I had to destory the files within the program, but I can't find a way to do that. I am in stress about trying to remove it and it is making homework for school, a huge problem. If you could help with this, I would kindly appreciate it.  :thumbup2:

Hello,

There are several methods available to try getting rid of this downloader parasite, but let's start with the simplest, easiest method first.

According to this article from Microsoft, you should be able to remove YT downloader and all its traces using the free version of revouninstaller:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-winapps/i-am-unable-to-uninstall-yt-downloader/b022ef64-1e9d-41db-a806-c91201c888ee

Please remove the ytdownloader extension from your Opera and Chrome browsers...

Disable or uninstall an extension (Opera)

You can disable or uninstall extensions from within the extensions manager. From the menu, select Tools > Extensions > Manage Extensions. Find the relevant extension, and click on "Disable" or "Uninstall".

Uninstall an extension to remove it completely from the browser:

  1. Click the Chrome menu  on the browser toolbar.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Select Extensions.
  4. Click the trash can icon by the extension you'd like to completely remove.
  5. A confirmation dialog appears, click Remove.

Then :

Please download and install Revo Uninstaller Free

Double click Revo Uninstaller to run it.
From the list of programs double click on The Program to remove
When prompted if you want to uninstall this program, click Yes.
Be sure the Moderate option is selected then click Next.
The program will run, If prompted again click Yes
when the built-in uninstaller is finished click on Next.
Once the program has searched for leftovers....(be patient here ! ) click Next.
Check/tick the bolded items Only, then click  DELETE
When prompted click on Yes and then on next.
put a check on any folders that are found and select delete
when prompted select yes then on next

Hi Condobloke, thanks for the guide.

I downloaded Revo Uninstaller but I still can't seem to uninstall YTDownloader. I'm wondering if it's because Avast detected one of its files as adware and placed it in the virus chest? I keep getting stuck at a certain point -- i tried CC Cleaner too and it just gets stuck.

I don't know what to do. I have a screenshot of what I'm trying to say but I don't know how to put it here..

UPDATE: I was able to uninstall the YTDownloader using Hitman Pro. (I knew it was uninstalled because I don't see it anymore in the list of Programs unlike before)

However, I still keep seeing the YTDownloader icon when I go to the taskbar (right hand side, I'm using Windows 8) and click the 'Show Hidden Icons' and click Customize..

This is the screenshot 2i2ap1h.jpg

I hope someone helps me with this. I'm terrified to mess up my laptop because of that crap.
