OK, I have been able to "rescue" all of my portable PCs and am now at my home desktop. This machine is just whacked out.

I will downoad and run Minitoolbox and post here. The machine crashed way back on Sept 9th when I left town on a long vacation. My housekeeper told me it "did something strrange". I told her to shut it off.

I seem to have a lot of stuff wadding up the Hard Drive. I tried removing all the AVG stuff with Revo like worked for my other two portables.  Sysytem Restore didn't work. Windows repair didn't work.

Anyway It's a mess.

It will not run Minitoolbox. Says AVG is problem. Removed AVG using Revo. Rebooting.

On my "Fixed" notebook.

The desktop will not install (or run) Minitoolbox. The harddrive is showing over 80% usage even though there is nothing on the machine. I sure would like to restore this thing to a date back in August when life was good.

Are you saying the disk is 80% full. I would type Run in the search box. In the Run bar type %temp%. You can safely delete anything in the temp folder. Do this for all accounts on the computer. Download CCleaner if it isn't installed and clean your browser cache and other temp files listed. Leave everything checked as it is. Don't use the registry cleaner in CCleaner.

Download WinDirstat to see what is taking up space on the drive.

Have you tried using AVG's uninstaller program?

Windirstat shows about 50/50 split of

Windows

and

Windows.old

I think I would like windows.old. Thet are each using about 45G.

Maybe worth mention.

The sound card failed at the same time. I installed a new PCI sound card today and the system did not see the new hardware, Probably wasted money on new sound card.

Ok, none of this is working on this,  "from what I have decided" is an "INFECTED MACHINE".

Now I am getting popups on Bleeping computer and redirects. That machine is really whacked. Fortunately it has no Top Secret information.

On my Notebook now.

CCleaner is free for non-commercial use. Windows.old is from a previous install. That can be deleted if no longer used once you copy files you want for Windows.old to the current install.

I will be moved to a new topic I suspect but..

Now this machine. ASUS K8V Deluxe MB won't recognize my soundcard. Creative Sounblaster 5.1. I bought a replacement and it still doesn't see it.  I am not on the machine right now but should I run the MiniToolbox.?

Is there a yellow exclamation mark next to the sound device in Device Manager? The motherboard has an integrated audio chip which does not have a Windows 7 driver. See if there is a setting in BIOS to disable onboard audio.

Yes it does. I  am recovering that machine from a crash and I will look in the BIOS. Thanks a lot. I just get so confused and frustrated at times with these PCs.
