Found my CRYPTOWALL key.

Alright well let me start off by letting you all know I'm using a rig w/ XP. So this is on me.


But anyways. I've run into the Crypto ransom deal and I had no idea it existed until now and just WOW. WTG bad guys.



Got rid of the actual Malware manually, no big deal but the encryption made me panic and I have no restore available so I'm screwed there but I did as much reading as I could...


I found a BBC article stating the creators of the Malware left the actual KEY on the infected PCs. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28661463


I go to the directory stated and sure enough there's a bunch of weird files.



If this is correct, then I have my key. I've tried to use the key retriever from https://www.decryptcryptolocker.com/ but I may have a newer, scarier version of this Crypto stuff, all my infected files give me an error.


I've looked everywhere on how to use it. I can't find any information on how to use the key myself.


All the possible keys are backed up, going to store this HDD somewhere safe if I don't get help soon as to not damage the process!

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQ

Reading that Guide will help you understand what CryptoDefense does and provide information for how to deal with it and possibly decrypt/recover your files. At this time there is no fix tool for CryptoWall.
