A while ago I was looking through a PDF on Adobe Reader 9 when it suddenly stopped responding. I tried to close it every way I knew how but it would not close. I tried clicking X, right clicking the task bar and clicking "close" I even tried using the Task manager to "End Program" and while I was able to use the Task manager normally the "End Program" button effectively did nothing. I did notice that my CPU Usage was jumping between 50 and 65%. I eventually had to manually restart my computer to get it off. Anyone know any solutions in case this happens again?

You may try to use the taskkill command from the elevated command prompt.
