I am unable to access target.com or walmart.com for the past several days on firefox, ie, or google chrome.  When I attempt to go to their sites I get a blank page.  If I try clicking a link to their sites I get the following

Not Found

The requested URL /browse/fabric/crafts/2637_667479_1085270 was not found on this server.

Apache/2.2.15 (CentOS) Server at www.walmart.com Port 80

I have run every virus scan and malware scan that I know of and none of them find any threats.  I know the sites aren't down as I can access them from my tablet and phone.  I appologize in advance this is way over my head.  Thank you for your help.

hi Kandk2001

Sorry for the delay. Your post is a few days old. If your still having problems there are a few things we can try. Probably not a malware issue. Just post back if you still need help.

So is it only those two web sites? Does a updated Malwarebytes come up clean after a scan?  Lets try setting each of your browsers back to there defaults.

With IE open go to Tools of the gear looking icon and click on Internet options. Under the advanced tab click on the reset button and also check delete personal settings then click the reset button. Reboot machine.

with Firefox open go to Help> Troubleshooting information>Reset Firefox

For Chrome follow this http://malwaretips.com/blogs/reset-chrome-settings/

Thank you for your response.  That did not fix my problem.  I think you are correct that this is not a malware issue.  I just figured out that I only have the issue when I'm on a wireless network.  When I'm plugged in with a network cable it works fine.  I've tried it on 3 different wireless networks, and on all three I could not access either of those websites.  I also have issues with links and such with a few other websites, but for some reason when I'm plugged in with a network cable it works fine.  Also, when I'm on my wireless network I can VPN to my office network and it works fine then too, but when I get off the VPN it fails again.

Ok thanks for the info. Try this when your connected wirelessly:

Go to a website that wont display in your browser.

Then open a cmd prompt by going to Start and in the search field type in: cmd and hit enter

A cmd prompt window will open.

Type in ping www. xyz.com  (the site that wont display)

and click enter

Next right click in the window and Select All, click enter

Then you can right click and paste it in your reply, or into notepad and save it and post it later.

I have fixed this.  A users sent me a private message with the solution.  I'm posting it here in case anyone else may have this same issue.

Kristie,

I just joined Bleeping Computer in order to reply to your topic, but I am not allowed to reply. I would like to share this with others that might land on the topic, so maybe you would consider posting my reply to your topic, especially if it works for you.

Here is my reply:

Kristie,

I see that you have an incorrect IP address returned (158.85.130.12). I was tracking down a problem exactly like yours yesterday on a friend's computer. His network setting for DNS server had been hijacked and set to a server that was directing target.com and walmart.com to fake sites. This is an extremely dangerous situation, because they can further develop these fake sites to capture your information. I believe some virus was installed that caused this. I was very suspicious of the numerous coupon printing applications that were installed. I would suggest uninstalling all applications you don't need and looking for suspicious applications in the list of uninstallable ones. If you don't get the application which hijacked your DNS setting uninstalled, it could just perform the same action.

Here is how you can correct the DNS server problem (in most cases): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-tcp-ip-settings#1TC=windows-7 . There may be specific DNS settings that your Internet provider or network configuration require.

Kevin

I went into my wireless adapter properties and found that the DNS for TCP/IPv4 was set to 75.126.206.18 and alternet was 184.173.169.186.  I deleted those values and set it back to obtain automatically and my problem is gone.  I wasn't really that worried about not being able to get to target or walmart, I was just affraid of whatever was causing it.  Much appreciation to everyone who helped me!!
