Yesterday I got a message in the solve PC issues icon tray that I could optimize performance by turning off startup programs.

I did turn some off but I cannot remember what exactly.  Today my PC has started with errors.  On the taskbar most of the icons have been replaced by Windows live mail icons and when I click on them only Windows live mail will open.  If I find the exe file on the hard drive like WinWord and click on it I still get Windows Live mail opening instead.  Even in control panel etc if I try and open system config I only get Windows live mail.  Many other options don't work at all when I click on them or open windows live mail.

Don't know if my problem is a result of my editing the startup thing or not.  I can't get to them now to check.

I finally managed to get Microsoft Fixit to run and it seems to have done just that.   Fixed it.  Hopefully for good.

Glad you (hopefully) resolved it...if not, we'll be around :).
