Popups All The Time, Several Trojans Found

Hi!
I have Windows XP Professional and I've had problems with popups for several months now. They are anything: nine.com, cassava, heavy.com, search.com, various casino sites, etc. I have popups whenever I have a browser opened, whether explorer or firefox. On the bottom of the screen, popups are seen separately from the browser windows i open. If multiple windows pop up, two things happen: more often, they are separate (i.e. not grouped) on the bottom of the screen (called taskbar?), but sometimes they are grouped. If they are grouped, they are named rsacic.exe. I tried to search for this program on google, albeit unsuccessfully.
I ran spyware doctor and mcafee and discovered several trojans, among which blackbox.class, verifierbug.class, matrix.class, beyond.class, dummy.class, parser.class, but I don't know how to go about removing them. McAfee won't (can't) remove them (says "no action taken") and I don't subscribe to spyware doctor. ad-aware does not detect anything but various data miners. spyware doctor says that some of these are in my registry files and i don't want to take a chance removing them on my own.

Let's start by running A2 anti-trojan scan and Ewido AnitMalware.

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds.

I recommend that you download and use CCleaner prior to scanning with Ewido in order to speed up the scan by removing all the temp/junk files.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

Note: We will be deleting all temp files. Before using CCleaner, make sure you do not have any files in the Temp folder that you want to keep. If so, then move them to another folder.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.


2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section including Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

Please download Ewido Anti Malware it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido anti malware
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu"
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
    Restart your computer
    After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
  • Click on Ewido Anti Malware icon to open it
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds.
    Choose Remove, then put a check next to 'Perform action on all infections' in the the box.
    Doing this, enables the scan to proceed automatically until its completion.
    Click OK
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close Ewido Anti Malware.

Note: Ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

It is a possibility that this is a new variant which hides itself from the scanners. :flowers:

Let's try this:

Go to HijackThis folder. Locate HijackThis.exe and right click on it.
From the menu that appears, click on Rename.
Change the name to "HijackNew.exe".
If it simply says "HijackThis" for the file inside the folder, change it to "HijackNew".
I don't know if a reboot will be needed. Probably not, but If it prompts you to reboot, please do so.

Click on HijackNew.exe or HijackNew to scan and post the log please.


Please post the report .txt from Ewido and a fresh Hijackthis log.
