When I go to "computer" from the desktop I see my hard disk drive icon, c:\ . But the DVD drive and sd drive are gone.

How do I get them back?

I am using an acer laptop. Aspire 5733z-4851  with 4gb memory and win 7 home premium 64 bit.

Generally this is a registry problem but it could also be a bad dvd drive. You can try to follow these instructions for the dvd drive:

http://www.techsupportall.com/fixed-solved-cd-drive-not-found-not-detect-remove-upper-and-lower-filter/

From my experience it was Norton that caused this issue the most frequently.

For the SD card reader (if that is what you mean by sd drive), you could go to device manager locate the sd card reader driver and uninstall it (DO NOT DELETE), just uninstall and restart the computer.

I solved the problem. Thanks for answering.
