I have a think pad r40, and i just got it. I do not know what type of battery it has in it. My question is: How long does most laptops batteries stay charged or last? Mine doesnt seem to last more than three or four hours without needing to be recharged> Was just wondering if that was normal.

Yes, that is about the average battery life of a ThinkPad. I have a ThinkPad myself (T60) and if you go to the ThinkVantage control panel, there are option you can select to either shorten or lengthen your battery life. If you hit Fn+F3 (Or whatever it is on your's) you can see these option and you can customize them.
