My pc running windows 7 64bit is currently not connecting to the internet, I can't hear any sound, and it's stuck on the windows classic theme. On September 26, I used windows update to update a few things (can't remember what they were) then the computer restarted. After rebooting and logging in, I ran CCleaner to clean the file system to possibly remove any junk files left behind by the updates. I then ran the registry cleaner in CCleaner and it came up with a few errors, so I allowed the program to fix them. I also changed a few things in services.msc because I knew a few programs were operating that I didn't need (can't remember these either). I then continued to do an essay. I shut the computer off and went to bed. The next morning, my mom tried using the computer but it couldn't access the internet and the theme had changed to the windows classic one. I have no idea what happened, but if I were to guess it might have something to do with my changes in services.msc... I've searched around the internet for any solutions but have found none. The only thread I've found that is exactly the same problem as mine is one I found on this site: www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/443155/no-sound-no-internet-windows-classic/

I posted this on the malware forum, and after attempting to help me, the user from the response team directed me to here. The thread for that is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/550243/no-internet-no-sound-and-stuck-on-windows-classic-theme/?p=3497981

They also told me to post the result.txt log from Minibox, so please find that below.

This doesn't sound like a networking problem as much as a Windows 7 issue but I'd try a restore point to before you made the changes. Then start again, this time write down what you are shutting off in services.

Hope this helps thumbup.gif

I can't restore to an earlier point. When I open System Restore it says "A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application log for more information. (0x80042302). I only posted here because the person helping me from the malware forum told me to.

Your log indicates the VSS service is disabled. VSS is required to do a System Restore. You will need to re-enable it. Some info ... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee923636(v=ws.10).aspx .

I turned on the VSS service and made startup automatic. When I run System Restore, it says " No restore points have been created on you computer's system drive. To create a restore point open System Protection." If I do so, then it says,

There was an unexpected error in the property page:
System Restore encountered an error. Please try to run System Restore again. (0x81000203) Please close the property page and try again.

So restoring to a previous point is not an option.

As I said, this sounds like you fubar'd your windows install. You obviously turned something off that needs to be on. My advice would be go to http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/ pick the "Safe" column and go through see if you can figure it out.

That worked. I now have my sound, internet, and theme back. Thanks, I appreciate the help that you all gave me. I shall be sure to make note of what changes I make in the future. How do I close this thread?
