I will now wait for a response before following the steps originally recommended on April 14, 2014 (please refer to the original page).

Is there a reason you didn't follow the steps suggested to you in April?

No reason, it was because I was busy with work and forgot to follow the steps.

From the info you've posted, it appears that although you have MBAM installed, your firewall is still disabled and there does not appear to be any antivirus program installed.

For safety's sake, recommend you immediately turn on your firewall and install an antivirus program.  I personally recommend the free Microsoft Security Essentials program, but you can use any program you like (free or paid) - just make sure you've got something running, since MBAM only protects against certain kinds of malware, and you'll need a traditional antivrius program running in tandem with it to provide additional protection.

What, specifically, are you concerned with today?  I see little point in referring to a prior topic that is outdated and to which you did not respond...and which was in a malware forum...that was then, this is now.

What is "the problem" as you see it today...with your system?  What is it that you want us to address with the idea that it's a system or O/S problem?

You are running Win 7 Enterprise on a netbook with 2GB of RAM.and no optical drive.

Your firewall is disabled, no AV installed.

Point us to what you perceive as "the problem", please...and we will try to help.

EDIT:  ...and you don't have sufficient free space on C: for Windows to function as it should.  Suggested minimum percentage is 15% of total partition space, you have about 10%.

Two things you can do to increase the amount of free space.

- Use the build-in Windows' "Disk Clean Up" tool. Select the option "Clean system files", tick all the boxes and let the program run.

- Delete the entire folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution". I think it's VERY large. (GBs).

- Remove the "Ask" toolbar with the Junkware Removal Tool.

- Remove "Microsoft Forefront" and install Microsoft Security Essentials. I think Speccy didn't recognize "Forefront". Seems to be VERY old.

- Your MS Firewall is completely missing & Windows Update failed to install Service Pack 1 multiple times. Run "Tweaking's Windows Repair".

Follow the instructions provided. Disable internet & antivirus. Tick every box under the tab "Repairs" and then hit "Start Repairs". The program should take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Hi, I apologize again for not responding few months ago.  My concerns right now are really the concerns I had months ago, hence the reference to the prior link.  They are the CHKDSK scan and the slow operating speed.

And yes, the C-drive is sufficiently low in space and so I want to clean up the disk space.  But, I don't know where to clean up and how to clean up.

My last problem is not being able to download itunes.  I dont know if this has to do with the slow-operating speed or not because my c-drive has little space but 10 gb is still enough to download itunes.  I want to download itunes.

Hi, thank you for your suggestions but how do I turn on firewall?

Hi, thank you for all your suggestions too.  Before I follow the directions above, I just want to ask:

What is the "software distribution" file?  What does it contain?  I believe that is the file I think that is large but I didn't remove it because I'm afraid I will delete important information/programs.

And what is the "Ask" toolbar?

- But it seems the MS Firewall is completely missing and then one can't "turn it on".

Willy 22,

Sorry - didn't notice the Windows firewall was missing,

Samuel will probably need to try running the Tweaking Windows Repair first, per your post #8 above.

- Windows Update downloads the Original update files from the internet and stores them in that folder. But after installation Windows doesn't (deliberately ??) remove those files. So, the size of that folder keeps growing & growing, month after month. Using Piriform's Ccleaner makes task of deleting much more easy.

- The "Ask" toolbar installs itself when one installs some programs. Nasty program. To be removed. See above.
