How can I transfer large amount of photos?

I have over 1000 photos on the Photo Library (Not Camera Roll) and I want to get them on my computer. I've already tried Skype and Facebook, but they only sent those photos individually.

I've looked around and a bunch of programs seem to exist that do this for you. However, many of the look fairly suspicious and I've never personally used them. I did find another importing method though, using Google's trustworthy photoediting app Picasa (download). Theres a quick little tutorial here.
