Started having problems two days ago with malware/adware.  Included such things as ads  from edealspop and specialdeals and ninja games and n10.adshotsnet.com and opensoftwaredownload.com and pirrit ; occasional flashing boxes stating my computer is about to crash, or my computer needs an urgent update.  None of these will allow me to take screenshots.   Eset appears to be catching a lot, others keep coming through when I am on the internet.   My first  reaction was to run Malwarebytes, which found nothing.  I then uninstalled Malwarebytes, rebooted in safe mode and installed a fresh copy of Malwarebytes (downloaded on a different machine from your website), and reran in safe mode.  It found some things, in heuristics, and said they were being quarantined.  Rebooted normally, checked the internet -- same problems.  Downloaded ADWcleaner from your site, installed & ran in safe mode.  Same result.

Contacted my computer support people and they advised me to try running TDSS Killer and Rkill from your website only.  Downloaded, installed and ran each in safe mode, rebooting after each.  Same result.  They then told me to run Combofix, which I did.  I have a log file but don't know what to do with it.  Same result as all other attempts.

I run this computer on our business network, and most data is kept on the mirrored server, with daily backups.  This workstation is backed up weekly, most recently last Thursday.    Have not tried Windows recovery as I feel that would be last ditch  effort.   Can anyone advise me?

First, thanks for your help.  I downloaded AdwCleaner and ran the scan three separate time, but could not get a report of log file.  The computer kept saying the directory and file did not exist (C:\AdwCleaner\Adwcleaner [R0]).  I tried searching for it but could not locate it.

I then ran FRST64 and the log file is pasted here:

Things appear to be running much better.   Eset has not found/quarantined any new items since running this fix.  The adblock plugin on Firefox is showing a few blocked ads, but nothing like what was happening before.  No more extra screens opening in the background, no popup ads when opening websites in Firefox, which is my default browser.  However, when opening websites in Internet Explorer, there are still some pop up ads, but far fewer.  I only use Internet Explorer for a few customer websites because those sites require IE with Active-X.

If you did not install that program remove it.

Open notepad (Start =>All Programs => Accessories => Notepad). Please copy the entire contents of the code box below.

start

() C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MotionRepositoryWinsock\MotionRepositoryWinsock.exe
R2 MotionRepositoryWinsock; C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MotionRepositoryWinsock\MotionRepositoryWinsock.exe [60453 2014-09-29] () [File not signed]
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MotionRepositoryWinsock\MotionRepositoryWinsock.exe

End
Save the files as fixlist.txt into the same folder as FRST

Run FRST and click Fix only once and wait.

Restart the computer normally to reset the registry.

The tool will create a log (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
p.s.
If the SecurityCheck program fails to run for any reason, run it as an Administrator.

If the site is busy or not available use this mirror site:

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Latest version is Java JRE 7u67.

You can manually check your present version and update as recommended.
https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Be careful not to install malware posing as Java update!
Important read this blog.
http://blog.trendmicro.com/trendlabs-security-intelligence/malware-poses-as-an-update-for-java-0-day-fix/

Quoted from the page.
"In light of the recent events surrounding Java, users must seriously consider their use of Java. Do they really need it? If yes, make sure that users follow the steps we recommended and get the security update directly from the official oracle website." at:

How to disable Java in your browsers

If present remove the old version(s) of Java using the Add/Remove Programs applet.

Java 7 Update 55
