I chimed with the follwing comment in the first thread in this topic

Windows seems to have this "two-step" OS releases. One good - one bad - one good (XP - Vista - 7 - 8)....

Let's just hope that, by skipping the Windows 9 name, MS have not skipped the "good" version in the bi-annual two step

I have not had time to read up on this new OS over at the MS website, but seriously, why Windows 10?  If the last Windows release was Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 where did Windows 9 go? Did I do what Rip Van Winkel did and sleep 100 Years?

My brain is hurting.

Does anyone have the slightest clue about what the heck is really going on?

And does anyone know where to download any previews, 9, 10, 11 or whatever.....

Microsoft went instead with Windows 10 because they wanted to signify that the coming Windows release would be the last "major" Windows update. Going forward, Microsoft is planning to make regular, smaller updates to the Windows 10 codebase, rather than pushing out new major updates years apart.

I agree, specially for us folks who live in the islands, land of lousy bandwidth.
None of this makes sense to me. There's more to this than meets the eye.

Neverthless, if anyone finds a preview download link, I'm dying to try whatever number it is.

Yup it's cursed. Now if they stuck to sequential order this new OS might be on the good list, now it's on my major iffy list. Hey, it keeps me in business.

Not knowing what is bad about the number "9"..I sure can think of another OS that has been a 10 for around 7 years! (Apple OS X)

Perhaps that might be a bit of the M$ number name game!

I take it..that someone at MS (rightfully or wrongfully) is trying to impress upon users that Win 8 and 8.1...are different versions, with each having problems peculiar to that version and not necessarily the seemingly corresponding version.

With that as the premise...Win 10 would be the chosen name.

That being said...is it too much to think of these things...before throwing them out for public consumption :) ?

Louis

Edit:  3.1, 95, 98, Me, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and the new child, Win 10.  Totally discounting the server issues.

My guess is that Windows 8.1 was the code name for Windows 9 so off we got to 10.  :P
