First of all my computer skill,s are just average. I got this laptop Acer Aspire S3-391 Windows 8  64 bit, got it at WalMart about 5 to 6 month,s ago. Someone else picked it up for me, is there anyway to find out if it,s

really new or refurbished ? The box I got it in says HDD, and downloaded ( Deffragler by Piriform ) which I wont use until I know for sure. I do know never defrag an SSD. Deffragler says ( media type HDD ) .

I also downloaded ( Speccy by Piriform ) it says SSD and device manager says SSD.

The sticker on my laptop shows a certain serial number but Speccy shows a different one. This is all very confusing. Thanks, Chuck

The retailer or online site if there is one would declare it as new or refurbished or sometimes not. Definitely the standard market price is the telling factor. With regard to the different OEM product key, it was also in my experience with my HP laptop. I happened to just copy or written down both product keys by notes just in case.

...and there will be a great difference between the warranty periods.  A new system is usually 1 year minimum, while refurbs/used are probably 30 days max if you did not buy the offered extended warranty.

I got a 2 yr. extended warranty from Acer, what $39.00 waste. I managed to chat with Acer 2 time,s  and thay said it show,s on our records that you bought it this date, that was 3 months before I bought it. Then thay said my warranty run Acer sucks. Thanks Chuck

This is solved, it,s new. My understanding when getting anything refurbished, by law it must have a sticker on it saying refurbished. I myself allways get refurbished. It,s just that someone picked up this laptop for me. I was just confused over what type of hard drive it has. I know to never defrag SSD. The box says one thing, else where says SSD. I solved this problem, I disabled automatic maintance, it wont defrag at all now. Refurbised to me is better, because it,s checked well and cheaper $$$$$. Who doesn't like cheaper? I do for sure. Thanks, Chuck
