Good advice there Gents but I think you scared kirstine98 off with the tech jargon.

Perhaps I should have started another post and I apologise if so, but my annoying problem could be related although mine doesn't drop out. Can you lay some light on why mine is doing this?

Start up machine - connect to the web from via Chrome and do a speedtest - Results via Ethernet cable show a consistent 4 - 5 Mbs/sec (should be 60 Mbs/sec).

If I connect wirelessly I get around 45 Mbs/sec as I would expect.

If I now uninstall the Realtek Family PCI FE Ethernet Controller in device manager and reinstall it via scan hardware changes, I get a consistent 60 Mbs/sec!

I've made sure the latest driver is installed, even after uninstalling the old driver, but I have to do this everytime I boot the machine whatever driver is installed.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
