E521 upgrades

HI, am about upgrade a e521 with a 500watt psu,WIN7,and a SEAGATE SSHS HDD.

I will be transfering data from existing HDD that has WIN XP on it and when i checked how many GB'S that are that disk i show the following 140 GB'S available,

with 54 GB'S USED can i use USB thumb drive of 64GB'S to remove all of the data less the OS as i believe the OS will not be removed is my thinking on this right.
